ABOUT US

History
Paul Turina, Ford Reiche and Howard Reiche founded Safe Handling, Inc. in 1989. With their respective backgrounds of environmental consultant, attorney and manager of Scott Paper's S.D. Warren mill in Westbrook, Maine, the three each had valuable experience to fill a perceived need in the transportation of hazardous and quality sensitive bulk materials in the Maine market. Prior to the creation of Safe Handling, no terminal in the region had committed itself to this area of specialization.

The terminal was constructed from the beginning using the best available equipment and design for safe operations. All HAZMAT transfer areas are over full release capture and containment systems. There is containment capacity for four non-compatible products with total released volume of four rail cars. Warehouse areas offer an additional containment capacity of up to three more rail car volumes of up to three non-compatible products.

Our customer base has grown to include nearly all of the prominent chemical producers servicing the northeast marketplace, who consistently report that Safe Handling provides the best service in the country.
